Established in 1946, The Margaretting Horticultural Society has organised this annual village community fete, which has become a cornerstone of village tradition. The origins follow the success of the Victory Show the previous year.
Over the years, the event has evolved significantly, incorporating modern elements into its traditional format while maintaining a strong sense of community spirit that continues to unite the village.
The fete welcomes participants of all ages, from 4 to 104, to showcase their talents in over 70 classes in these categories - horticultural, household and children’s. After judging their exhibits are on show in the main hall. It brings families and friends together to proudly share, grow, and prepare for the event.
Each year we award our historic, beautiful, silver cups to those who have exhibited fine produce in these classes. The Royal Horticultural Society grants us the Banksian Medal to award to any individual exhibitor who achieved the highest points in the Horticultural Classes in the current year. This is a dated and unique medal awarded with a certificate that is theirs to keep forever.
On the recreation ground, visitors can browse a variety of artisan craft stalls offering items made of soap, honey, ceramics, fabric, glass, and woodwork, along with tasty homemade treats, a barbecue, and a bar tent. Live music performances, singing, and entertainment for children are also featured, as well as both traditional and modern games.
Entertainment in the central arena changes each year as we continue to expand our offerings. For the 80th anniversary fete, guests can look forward to an unforgettable experience, including aerial acrobatics, additional vintage vehicles and models, and the BBMF Supermarine Spitfire flypast.
We look forward to welcoming all our visitors to our fete where there is something for everyone to enjoy.
